There is a dish described as “Unidentified gelatinous slices of something. Did not ingest. Tried not to look at.” I suspect that the item in question is sliced egg, preserved duck egg. See wiki entry http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fermented_egg

They can be quite tasty. An acquired taste akin to blue cheese for some.
